OBESIDADE EM ÉGUAS DURANTE A GESTAÇÃO
Resumo
O objetivo dessa revisão foi alertar sobre um problema atual que é a obesidade durante o período gestacional em éguas e os reflexos desse problema na prole. Devido ao manejo intensivo ao qual os equinos são submetidos atualmente, é possível identificar um aumento na população de animais apresentando obesidade. A obesidade em equinos está relacionada com o aparecimento de doenças endócrinas importantes que cursam com alterações hormonais e como consequência podem levar ao aparecimento de laminite. Durante a gestação, são identificadas alterações hormonais que ocorrem fisiologicamente, como nas dinâmicas da insulina e da glicose, com intuito de facilitar o aporte de glicose para os tecidos feto placentários e promover o crescimento fetal. Animais gestantes em condições de obesidade podem obter potros com alteração no peso ao nascimento ou que possam apresentar alterações metabólicas na idade adulta. Portanto, é importante compreender as possíveis consequências da obesidade durante o período de gestação para poder intervir corretamente no manejo desses animais quando necessário.
